Remember all the craze we all had with Huat Pals last CNY? Lennys, BB Lohs, ring a bell?
Well, Huat Pals is back again this year, featuring a new set of characters: Mala, BaoBao, Reddy, Ah Lai, and everyone’s favourite, BB Loh.
BB Loh was the rarest one out of all the Huat Pals last year, and the character people were literally begging for in order to win the cash prize.
The grand prize this year is a Scratch Card that is worth up to S$88.88 , and one exclusive partner voucher from the list below:
- S$15 FairPrice Online Voucher with no minimum spend
- 1 free drink a day for 1 week from Flash Coffee
- S$8 Foodpanda voucher with no minimum spend
- Up to S$10 off Shopee Supermarket + mystery grand hamper prize
And just like last year, you are to collect all 5 Huat Pals before 15 February 2022 to redeem the prize. Based on anecdotal experience, BaoBao is the rarest Huat Pal of them all. So beg for BaoBao, not BB Loh.
The daily tasks that award Huat Pals this year are focused on using Google Pay for merchant payments, so you can’t send each other $10 to earn Huat Pals anymore.
Update as of 27 Jan 2022:
I have collected all Huat Pals, including BaoBao. My Grand Prize Scratch Card gave me a paltry S$6.88, and the partner voucher I received was a S$15 FairPrice Online voucher with no minimum spend.
The rules said up to S$88.88 can be earned from the Scratch Card. But not gonna lie, getting only S$6.88 is really disappointing.
Anyway, to maximise your chances of collecting all 5 Huat Pals like how I did, read on to find out 4 tips and tricks I used.
Share request links, not gift links
The easiest mission to complete this year is to gift your extra Huat Pals to others in order to gain new Huat Pals. You can get awarded with up to 5 Huat Pals per day.
But before you click on the Gift Huat Pals button, here’s something you need to know.
Only the first person who clicks on your Gift Link will receive a Huat Pal. The others will receive nothing. And it’s not the most efficient method to reach the limit of 5 Huat Pals.
See, if your friend isn’t active on Google Pay and does not accept your gifted Huat Pal, no new Huat Pals will be awarded to you. Further, if you are sharing in a group, you have to generate 5 different Gift Links.
So instead of privately sending different Gift Links to all your friends (remember, accepting gifted Huat Pals is first come first serve), create a chat group with 5 friends and get them to share their Request Link.
Here’s my Request Link, so send me all the extra Huat Pals you don’t need. Now everyone is able to gift 5 Huat Pals instantly using the 5 unique Request Links shared.
Use Google Pay For QR Payments And Wallet Top Ups
Like I mentioned in my QR Payment article, Google Pay works on both PayNow and FavePay QR codes. Funds can be auto debited from your PayLah, OCBC, or StanChart account to make payments.
The former gives no merchant cashback (only Google Pay Scratch Cards) and the latter usually gives 5% in merchant cashback for future use.
If you frequent merchants with PayNow or FavePay QR codes, this is an added incentive for you to use Google Pay for payment instead.
1 Huat Pal is given per transaction above $5, up to 5 Huat Pals a day. What’s more, an additional Huat Pal is given on your 5th transaction using PayNow QR and on your 5th transaction using FavePay QR.
If you don’t really encounter brick and mortar stores with either QR, fret not as CPF, multi-currency e-wallet top ups via PayNow QR will earn you Huat Pals. For Android users, you can also link your debit/credit card to Google Pay for contactless payments.
A trick I used was to top up my YouTrip wallet in tranches of S$5 with Google Pay, using the PayNow top up option. A time-limited QR Code like the one shown below will be generated once you enter the amount you want to top up.
After you save the QR code to your gallery, use Google Pay’s Scan QR button, click gallery, then select the YouTrip QR Code you saved.
After scanning the QR code, simply confirm the sending of S$5 to your YouTrip wallet and voila, 1x S$5 QR transaction completed. You can repeat this 5 times a day to max out your daily Huat Pal rewards, or until this gets patched of course.
If you want to withdraw the funds you topped up to YouTrip, use the Visa card to top up your Revolut Account or your GrabPay account. This is because YouTrip does not support withdrawals but Revolut and GrabPay do.
Android users have another method: Topping up your Revolut balance via the online version of Google Pay. Link a debit/credit card to Google Pay, and select it as a top up method. Just make sure top ups are at least S$5.
Always test top ups with small amounts initially as anecdotally, the success rate varies widely.
So don’t go spamming your YouTrip with S$5 top ups without first ensuring you are able to spend or withdraw the balance. Make payments using Google Pay, get more Huat Pals, simple as that.
Join Huat Pals Telegram Groups
If you’re too lazy to create a group, join ready-made ones on Telegram. You can join the members in spamming sending Request Links.
Take note that some people will only share their Gift Links to fulfill their 5 daily Gifts and stop there.
These Gift Links when clicked will most likely be empty since one out of the thousands of members in the group will have already accepted the Huat Pal.
So don’t be selfish, share your Request Links and encourage others to do the same. Everyone can send Huat Pals faster by clicking on other Request Links.
Share Gift Baskets With friends
Whenever you receive a BB Loh or Mala, you will be rewarded with a gift basket. These gift baskets will be situated above the respective Huat Pals.
Gift Baskets contain 5 items that can either be vouchers or Huat Pals. These items can only be claimed when you share it with a group of friends, and each person, including you can claim 1 item from the Gift Basket.
Sharing is caring, there is no point hoarding your Gift Baskets. Your friends will love you for doing so too.
Conclusion
In sum, the most likely way to get a BaoBao is by… maxing out the daily tasks and using Google Pay as much as possible.
It’s all down to luck again this year. You can be an enthusiast, completing all the tasks daily, but never get awarded a BaoBao, or you can just be a casual user who lucked out.
But if you want to statistically boost your chances of getting that BaoBao for your up to S$88.88 Scratch Card, follow these tips. All the best to you. Are there any other Huat Pal tips I missed out, let me know in the comments below.
